Blue Zone
A film about the secret of Longevity in Sardinia
Set in the charming village of Baunei, in the province of Nuoro in the region of Ogliastra, the film, The Last Centenarian directed by director Pietro Mereu and produced by Ilex Production, tells the story of a journalist, played by Carlotta Dessì, who ventures into the 'Blue Zone' of Sardinia, one of the regions of the world known for the exceptional longevity of its inhabitants. During her search for the last living centenarian, the protagonist discovers a startling truth that will change her views on life and death.
The extraordinary active participation of the local elders and all the inhabitants offered an authentic portrayal of the life and traditions of the Sardinian community.
The project is made possible thanks to the support of the Fondazione Sardegna Film Commission and the Tourism Department of the Region of Sardinia.
Pietro Mereu, director and author of the film, said, “After The Club of Centenarians-which I shot in 2015 but officially released in 2017-and Arzachentos, this project was born with the intention of honoring the extraordinary longevity of these communities. A work of fiction that seeks to summarize the spirit that would serve to protect the heritage represented by longevity.” The film can be viewed for free on MyCulture+, a channel dedicated to giving voice and space to minorities around the world.
