On Wednesday, July 17, the arena polo circuit makes a stop in Porto Cervo with with a parade in the piazzetta
For the fourth consecutive year Sardinia hosts the Italia Polo Challenge, the polo tournament organised in collaboration with the FISE (Italian Equestrian Sport Federation). The competition taking place at the Andrea Corda Sports Centre in Abbiadori, a stone’s throw from Porto Cervo, has become a permanent fixture of the summer calendar on the island, with the backing of the Sardinia Region and some exceptional partners: Smeralda Holding, the U.S. Polo Association, Union Facility and Natuzzi.
Following the previous stage in Rome’s Piazza di Siena and the subsequent meeting in Puglia last October, the Italia Polo Challenge arrives in Sardinia in July: it all starts on Wednesday 17th with two parades, one in the Piazzetta of Porto Cervo and the other in Arzachena, with horses and riders accompanied by the Brigata Sassari band. On Thursday 18th, Friday 19th and Saturday 20th, there are matches in Abbiadori (two every evening, with the finals on Saturday). Four teams are ready to go, and sportsmanship combines with glamour and high-end hospitality: beside the field there will be a restaurant, a food truck and musical entertainment for the spectators. One of the missions of Italia Polo Challenge and the FISE is in fact to make this sport accessible to all, in venues that would normally host other activities but are converted into polo fields for the occasion.
