Sardinia stars at Sanremo Festival
Mahmood and Geppi Cucciari presenters alongside Carlo Conti
On the fourth evening the Sardinians on the Sanremo stage are two, or rather three: Mahmood, Geppi Cucciari and... Antonio Marras with the beautiful clothes created for Geppi. Cucciari and Marras share a long friendship and love for the land of their birth. Sardinia becomes embroidery and ornamentation in Marras' clothes: precious Nuraghe are designed on both Geppi's dresses for the Festival and pieces from the Alghero-based designer's SS 25 collection, now in the boutique.

“Each of my creations is a piece of my heart,” says Antonio. And foremost in his heart is Sardinia: the landscape of Alghero, where he works with his family, and local traditions have always influenced his style. Piecing together this interesting puzzle is “ligazzio rubio,” the red thread, in Sardinian, that is his trademark.
Mahmood, a Sardinian mother from Ortisei and an Egyptian father, was also immediately enthusiastic about his participation with Geppi Cucciari on Cover night.

Alessandro, pseudonym Mahmmod, has won the Sanremo Festival twice: in 2019 with the song Soldi and in 2022 as a duet with Blanco with the song Brividi. He represented Italy by right at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv by placing second, both in the 2022 edition in Turin, finishing sixth together with Blanco. In addition to the two San Remo titles, he was awarded the MTV Europe Music Award for best Italian artist in 2019. In 2024 he participated again in the Sanremo Festival, finishing sixth with the song Tuta gold.
