The beach of Grande and Piccolo Pevero
Everything you need to know about the picturesque crescent-shaped bay
In the heart of Gallura, in the Gulf of Pevero, two wonderful beaches stretch out placidly, named after the locality itself: Piccolo Pevero and Grande Pevero. The Piccolo Pevero beach is located in the central part of the gulf, set in a fine natural context, solitary and wild, especially on the eastern side. It is a very picturesque beach, enriched by a dune system that develops behind it and on which wonderful centuries-old junipers rest. Lush, fragrant Mediterranean vegetation grows at the back of the beach. The beach is designed in its precious natural contours by fine, white sand bordered by reefs that emerge from the incredibly crystal-clear sea, whose changing colours vary, in a play of colours, from green to blue to then become, thanks to its extraordinary clarity, almost colourless near the shoreline. The shallow, gently sloping seabed makes it particularly suitable for bathing and children's play. A particularly popular destination for tourists from all over the world, the Piccolo Pevero is located in the immediate vicinity of the Grande Pevero beach.
The Grande Pevero beach is a wide crescent of soft, white sand contrasting with extraordinarily turquoise waters. On the shore, small rocks emerge in places, while behind the beach, almost as if to enclose it in a symbolic protection, verdant Mediterranean scrub with juniper trees predominating. The Grande Pevero beach is a tourist destination and one of the most exclusive, preceded by the Mediterranean maquis that populates the pine forest and the dune system that transforms into fine white sand on the shoreline. The sea displays green hues that alternate with the blue and crystal-clear colour of the shore. Moreover, behind the shore, there is a small pond called ‘La Padula’, which allows bathers to practice birdwatching, because of the different species of birds that visit it to water. Finally, the Grande Pevero is well sheltered from southerly winds, allowing bathers to escape from the Sirocco on sultry days.
