The beach of Liscia Ruja
Discovering one of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia
The sand here has the power to change colour as soon as the water reaches it: from pure white it becomes pink as if by magic, before once again returning to white. The changing colours are made even more picturesque by the intense blue of the sea and the tangle of green mediterranean scrub that lines the beach. To this jubilation of colours, add the scents of juniper, cistus and strawberry tree: if you had to imagine paradise, it would probably have the very same colours and aromas as Liscia Ruja beach.
An expanse 500 metres long, gifted by nature on the north-east coast of the island, Liscia Ruja is also known as ‘Long Beach’, as it’s the longest on this stretch of coastline, and it’s also one of the most famous in this area of Gallura, a stone’s throw from the most prestigious and best known super-luxury resorts of Porto Cervo. This is a stunning natural place that occupies the whole of the western side of the Cala di Volpe bay. The view that delights visitors to the beach is of the islands of Soffi e Mortorio, but depending on your position you might also glimpse the island of Capo Figari in the distance. The east-facing Liscia Ruja is sheltered from the west wind and the Mistral and will host a new beach club from this summer (expected opening early July).
The main beach is flanked by other smaller coves and inlets, Li ‘Itriceddhi, Petra Ruja and Razza di Juncu, reached by footpaths lined with strawberry trees, cistus, juniper and white lilies, whose flowering makes the walk to the beach even more surreal and marvellous. Here, untamed and unspoilt nature blends perfectly with the services on offer: while a large expanse of sand is free to use, there are also several beach clubs with bars and restaurants, toilets and showers, and you can even hire canoes, kayaks and rubber dinghies.
SERVICES
The wild and unspoiled nature here blends perfectly with the services offered: while a large stretch of beach is free, there are still numerous beach concessions with refreshment facilities, equipped with toilets and showers, where it is also possible to rent canoes, kayaks and dinghies.
