The eternal beauty of Cala Granu

History, services and how to reach this oasis of wonder

If you use your imagination and let your imagination fly you can still see the expanses of wheat that spend in the sun and are moved by the wind, and immediately in front of them a cove with white sand and crystal blue sea: the beach of Cala Granu since ancient times was exactly like that. And the only thing that has changed over the decades is only the presence of the plantations behind it, almost encircling this strip of coastline. For the rest, the landscape has remained almost unchanged, and the dwellings that have sprung up in its vicinity over the years have perfectly blended in with the thick Mediterranean scrub, which almost seems to have incorporated them.

This beach just minutes from Porto Cervo, which takes its name precisely from wheat, is sheltered from winds and characterized by soft, white sand that is almost impalpable. Its shallow, sandy bottom makes it a favorite destination and perfect for families with children. Even before it was discovered in the 1950s by tourists, the beach of Cala Granu was frequented by the inhabitants of Monti di Mola who knew it well and came here to spend moments of rest, just after the hard work in the fields, perhaps after the harvesting and harvesting of wheat. When the Emerald Coast was born in the 1960s, Cala Granu was rightly counted among the most beautiful coves on the northeastern Sardinian coast. Just a hundred meters wide, the beach is embraced by some rocky cliffs that shelter it from the wind. The view from the beach is of the striking Capo Ferro lighthouse.
