The most beautiful stazzi to visit in Gallura
Let's discover the most fascinating with timeless beauty
The stazzi, scattered throughout Gallura, represent true icons of an agro-pastoral past, guardians of a millenary culture and symbols of a deep bond with the land. Built in granite stone, they are distinguished by their squat and compact shape, perfectly integrated into the surrounding landscape. A main dwelling, often with only one room, served as kitchen, bedroom and common area. Next to it, there were outbuildings for livestock, the vegetable garden and other elements that ensured food self-sufficiency.
The origins of stazzi date back to a period between the 17th and 18th centuries, when Sardinian and Corsican shepherds settled in Gallura, creating these isolated agricultural units. Over time, the stazzi became the beating heart of life revolving around a rural economy, resisting invasions and foreign domination.
The Costa Smeralda®, renowned for its exclusive charm and dreamy beaches, hides an unexpected treasure in the form of a complex of these ancient rural dwellings, the stazzi, immersed in the Mediterranean maquis, which offer an authentic Sardinian experience, combining tradition and comfort in a perfect blend.
Today, many stazzi in various locations around Gallura have been restored and converted into cosy agriturismi (Want to find out the best ones near Porto Cervo? Click here), offering visitors an authentic experience of rural Sardinia. Here are the most beautiful and fascinating stazzi to visit.
